Singapores second satellite town that incorporates a town centre, educational, commercial en recreational facilities as well as light industries that provided employment for residents. The whole town is conceived in its entirety: road system, neighbourhoods, towncentre , sport complexes and a townpark.

Toa Payoh is located within the Central Region and developed on former swamp land and extensive squatter area. It covers a total of 845 ha in land area.

The existing public housing in Toa Payoh Town is currently undergoing redevelopment and upgrading. Private high-density housing is also proposed to incease the variety of housing forms in the planning area. To ensure a better housing mix, medium-density housing will be introduced at the fringe centres such as at Braddell Road, Marymount Road, Thomson Road and Bartley Road. With these proposals, there will be an increase of about 13,000 housing units over the existing stock, bringing the total to 50,649 dwelling units in Toa Payoh planning area.
