Novi Travnik was planned in 1949 to house the steel factory MMK Bratstvo and apartments for the workers of the factory. The city was damaged badly during the war in the 90s. It shrunk from 30.000 in 1991 to 24.000 in 2013. The New Town lies at 14 kilometers south from the larger city Travnik.
