This new town is part of attempts at creating a 'specific' algerian housing architecture following the agragarian villages.

There were some specific demands for this settlement: maximum projection for sandstorms and the sun, use of local techniques and traditions, respect for the local architecture. Through studies of the needs of the population, the design was made as follows: individual housing units that separate private from semi-private functions, courtyard as central family meeting-point, cupolas and vaults was incorporated as they are typical features of the city of el-Qued. On the main street the ground level was turned into stores.
