The Centenary City is the name of the project for the smart city that will be located in a 1260 hectares virgin land close to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, some 20 km south west of the capital city Abuja.
The plan for the new town was established by the Federal government in partnership with a private corporation based in Abu Dhabi, with the aim to create a competitive urban settlement on the same level of Dubai, Monaco or Singapore, and also to serve as a political and economic tool for securing foreign investment.
The plan was presented in 2014 in occasion of the Nigeria centenary celebration but by that time the project is in a conceptual stage and the work of construction has not started yet.
