The new town of Kalumbila was established in 2012 and it gained the City status in 2015, under the leadership of President Lungu.
It is now home to 5000 inhabitants, but it is expected to house a population of around 15.000 people by 2020. The current Kalumbila provides already serviced land with water, electricity, roads and sewage network and public infrastructure including sites for government offices and essential services such as the fire and police stations.
The commercial development of Kalumbila, managed by Kalumbila Town Development Corporation Limited (KTDC), is developing in order to ensure the long term viability of the settlement and also to create new forms of investment, in alternative to the existing mining area.
