The project for Kabitaka started on the initiative of the mining company FQM, who has acquired 231 hectares of land to construct 920 housing units for both Kansanshi mine employees and the community as a whole in a period of five years. It consist of a residential and commercial development, including several facilities: schools, a regional shopping center, hotel and business center. At the present the process of construction is at the first stage: 366 houses, primary school, water supply, access roads and a sewerage system have been completed.
