The City of Boughzoul was planned with the intent to become a competitive pole of advanced technologies, scientific and Hi-tech research. Moreover the realization of a new town has the purpose to reduce the demographic pressure concerning the Maltidja area. In 2000 it was proposed as the new capital of Algeria, and in 2008 the first phase of construction began. But at the moment the project is still unrealized.
