Tamesna is a satellite city of Rabat located between Temara and Sidi Yahia Zaer, which depends on the Skhirat-Temara prefecture, in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region. It was founded to absorb the fast population growth in Rabat and Temara and to house slum dwellers of the surrounding communities. The plan for the new town was established in 2004, at the time of the Jettou government, and inaugurated in March 2007 by the king Mohammed VI.
In 2014 there were a total of 30.000 inhabitants and 11.000 housing units built, on the 55.000 dwellings planned.
In 2015 more than 3000 households who paid in advance for their new houses, have not been delivered. King Mohammed VI ordered an inquiry and from that moment the development process of the city seems to have stopped.
