The project for the New Town of Chrafate, 18km from Tangier, was approved by King Mohammed VI in January 2009.
The city is located in a natural environment, covering a total area of nearly 13kmq. It will emerge as an urban crossroads of primary importance with a population expected to count 150.000 inhabitants.
The site chosen for the construction of the city is the result of a strategic choice, to consolidate the development and prosperity of the Northern Region.
The realization of Chrafate carries several purposes. First, it will strengthen the economic and social development facing the whole region: Morocco's northern economy is experiencing unprecedented growth, driven primarily by the commissioning of the largest port Tangier Med and the establishment of new industrial zones.
It would also be a response to the increasing housing demand, current regarding the urban saturation of Tangier and future due to the influx of future employees of industrial platform and their families.
