Urbanization phenomenon in Togo has intensively involved the capital city, Lomé, in the last few years. It has a population of 2 million inhabitants, which means one third of the total national population. Moreover the physical expansion of the city is blocked by natural factors, such as the Atlantic Ocean in the South, the Ghanaian border in the western area and river Zio in the North-East.
Wellbeing City has the purpose to supply the housing need, providing affordable housing for middle income groups, along with all services and amenities of a competitive “smart city”. The principles at the basis of its planning are: space optimization, alternative transport network, use of renewable energies, social and functional diversity.
