The City of Aarhus and the housing association Brabrand Boligforening have developed a Masterplan for the Aarhusian boroughs of Gellerup and Toveshøj that address problems of unemployment and the risk of ghettoization. Although many residents enjoy living there, and there is a strong social commitment among local associations, the area needs to be more integrated with the surrounding urban fabric of Aarhus. In light of these challenges, the masterplan includes, among other things, mixed-use developments and improved public space and transportation infrastructure.
